Gateway to Kananaskis
Rock dust carried
along in the meltwater from the Victoria Glacier turns the water white.
The Plain of Six Glaciers trail follows this river which feeds into
Lake Louise. It is most
active during July & August when the ice melts. The trail crosses
the stark and barren rubble of gravel moraine deposited by the receeding
glacier. Avalanches of ice falling from the glacier make a deep rumbling
noise like thunder.
