American Trails Web Site Contest
The Bragg Creek - Gateway to Kananaskis web site has been acepted as an entrant in a best trails related web site contest. It will be judged in February in the Community trails system and Graphics and site design categories.
About the site
The web site guides you through the Hamlet of Bragg Creek, nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies 28 miles west of Calgary, Alberta, into a multi-use natural wilderness of mountains and crystalline rivers known as Kananaskis. The site is organized into four sections; Bragg Creek, Kananaskis, Activities and Environment providing an insider's guide to activities and attractions with trail guides, hourly updated weather (with a webcam) and reports on trail conditions. There are lots of photos and detailed maps. The site hosts the Bragg Creek Trails Association web site and is an advocate for protection of the wilderness from industrial activity.
During a visit to the site you can find out about wild animals and wild flowers that are common in the area, trail building, camping, how to avoid or deal with wild animal encounters and even learn a bit about the history of the area. Information on activities and attractions in and around Bragg Creek is provided with features on popular hikes and the most popular destinations for visitors. The area is the venue for a number of organized events including the TransRockies Mountain Bike Race and the Banded Peak Challenge.
The "Wish You Were Here" electronic postcards provide attractive images of local scenes that can be used to keep in contact with friends and family. Outdoor enthusiasts and visitors are encouraged to use the message board to share their experiences in Kananaskis and Bragg Creek.
The site is privately owned and is supported by ads and an online store that sells outdoor apparel and gear decorated with Bragg Creek and Kananaskis branding.
