Regarding: Clear- Cut Logging in Kananaskis

To Premier Ralph Klein,

As a geologist and resident of Bragg Creek, I am appalled by the plan, along with the  ‘finesse’ used by both the Spray Lake Sawmill (SLS) and Government of Alberta for Clear cut Logging in the Bragg Creek – Kananaskis area. If implemented it will have serious adverse effects on the environment. The following websites are formed by Bragg Creek residents and provide valuable scientific arguments against clear- cut logging: http://www.braggcreek.ca/forest/index.htm   (article on Clear- Cut Logging in Kananaskis – impact on recreation, water and wildlife). Found on http://www.braggcreek.ca/.

Stewardship of nature is a responsibility we all share. However, when some people pay only lip service to this responsibility – as is the case in the above mentioned plan – it’s no wonder that individual citizens question the motives of corporations and elected government officials.

Over the past decade, many locals, myself included, have expressed deep concern about the adverse impact of clear-cut logging, in the Bragg  Creek – Kananaskis area. We’ve participated in public meetings, we’ve written letters and we’ve provided scientific data to all parties concerned. For a heart felt article of a concerned biological scientist who lives in Bragg Creek, I recommend that you read: Ralph Cartar's perspective on the first highlighted page in this article.

Yet despite our urging the Government of Alberta to mandate a “middle path” in which all parties can work together to overcome their differences, we find that the interests of the environment are not only being compromised, they’re being ravaged.

This has to stop. The Government of Alberta must demonstrate true leadership. It must heed the increasingly urgent warnings advanced by the scientific community that nature demands balance – and it must put forward policies that are far-sighted and in the interests of all concerned parties.

Due to past dealings with BCEC, Oil and Gas Corporations, Government officials, individuals of the Bragg Creek area, plus the aspect that members of my family and friends have spent and thoroughly enjoyed the many times witnessing the infinite living mind of nature in the mountains of Western North America, I strongly suggest that we agree with the proposal of the Moose Mountain Wildland Park. These details are proposed are here.

Please help look after our natural heritage …. The Infinite living mind of nature,
